When you are out in the world, and you say something, people are impacted. It’s unavoidable. If you smile at the girl who gives you your coffee, you’ve given her your gratitude. If you yell at her, you’ve given her your anger. She will react in whatever way she does, and then go on to talk with her coworker about what just happened. Her coworker will get home to her family… and so on. This creates a ripple around the world. This is why viral marketing works. We are all connected.
Our inaction is equally important. If you shrug when atrocities are going on in the world, you’ve given them your indifference. If you don’t show up to a meeting, you’ve given the people who were counting on you your disrespect. Sometimes we don’t realize how powerful our voice and our actions are. We’re always saying something.
Since, you’re always saying something, then why waste time saying anything you don’t really mean? When you’re worried about how something will be received, remember that you say just as much by not putting it out there. People will think what they think either way. Put your real thoughts and your real self out there, and then at the end of the day at least you’ve been true to who you are. Now, what do you have to say to the world?
